比較文化学類の教育目標は次のようなものです。
The following are the educational goals of the College of Comparative Culture.

人類が築いてきた様々な文化を、「現代性」と「学際性」という視点から捉え直し、それを通じて、グローバル化した社会・文化に関わる、広い視野と柔軟な発想力を備えた人材を育成します。さらに、外国語習得を通じた国際的コミュニケーション能力を高めることに努めます。
We foster talented persons with broad vision and flexible thinking in relation to global societiy and culture, by examining the various cultures that humanity has built from the perspective of from modernity and “emphasizing an interdisciplinary approach. In addition, we endeavor to raise international communication skills through the acquisition of foreign languages.

この目標を実現するという観点から、本学類の教育体制は以下の3つの点に大きな特徴を持っています。
From the viewpoint of realizing these goals, the educational system of our college has major features in the following 3 points.

 

 

 

比較文化学類のカリキュラムは「比較文化専攻」という大きな専攻の元に、二つの領野に分かれ、さらにそれぞれの領野が3つの研究領域に分かれています。領域はテーマごとにコースに分かれており、一番下のカテゴリーにあたるコースは合計で17あります。
The curriculum of the College of Comparative Culture is divided into two divisions based on the larger major of Comparative Culture, and each division is split into three divisions. . The divisions are further divided into areas according to themes and there are 17 areas in total.

「領域」は、狭い学問分野にとらわれない広い視野をもって、それぞれの学問分野を横断して学修できるように学際的な性質をもって作られています。「コース」は、3年生になってから皆さんが最終的に所属する基礎単位で、コースの先生と一緒に卒業論文を仕上げることになります。
Divisions are created with an interdisciplinary nature, so that they can be mastered across each academic discipline with a broad perspective that is not limited to narrow fields. Areas are the basic units to which you will eventually belong to in your 3rd year, and you will finish your graduation thesis with the area professors.

どこの「領域」／「コース」に属していても、比較文化学類のカリキュラムは、皆さんの関心や興味にあって様々な授業科目が自由に履修できるように作られています。さらに、興味や将来の志望にあった学修をガイドするために履修モデルを用意して、皆さんの学修にふさわしいカリキュラムを作れるようにサポートします。
The curriculum of the School of Comparative Culture is designed so that you can freely choose various classes depending on your concerns and interests, regardless of what division and area you belong to. In addition, we will prepare a course model to guide you that matches your interests and future aspirations, and the staff will support you in creating a curriculum suitable for your studies.

 

21世紀、世界はますます緊密な結びつきを強めています。
グローバルな時代を生きる力を養成するには、語学力はもちろんのこと、異文化に対する知識、他者を受け入れる心構えなども必要です。そのためには他国の人々と実際に交流を持ち、自分たちとは異なる思考方法や生活習慣を肌で感じることが、何よりの近道になります。
The 21st century has witnessed a strengthening of international bonds among nations and people. In order to develop the ability to live in this global age, we need language skills and knowledge of different cultures as well as an attitude of acceptance towards other people. The best way to do this is to have practical exchanges with people from other countries and understand from experience the different ways of thinking and lifestyles.

本学類では多彩な語学教育をはじめとして、みなさんが世界へと視野を広げるためのさまざまなツールを用意しています。諸外国からの留学生との国際交流プログラムに始まり、世界各国の50以上もの大学との提携関係を通じて、さまざまな期間、さまざまな形での留学のチャンスがあります。相手先によっては単位互換によって休学期間を作ることなく卒業できたり、留学先での追加の授業料を減免されるなど、大学・学類も環境の整備に力を入れています。
In our college, we have various tools to expand your vision of the world which includes diverse language education and international exchange programs with international students from other countries. Through emphasis on these programs we provide the opportunity for students to study abroad in various forms or for various periods through our partnerships with more than 50 universities around the world. Our university and college is trying to improve the learning environment we provide to enable students to graduate without taking leaves of absence for study abroad. Thanks to credit compatibility and reduction or exemption of additional tuition fees when studying abroad, depending on the conditions given by partner universities, we are able to provide a better learning environment.

 

比較文化学類は"何を学ぶのか分かりにくい"とよく言われます。しかしそれは裏を返せば、「どんなテーマにも対応できる」ということなのです。
Some say “It is difficult to understand what you learn” in our college. On the other hand, this also means that we can cope with whatever you are interested in.

現代社会は高度に複雑化しており、特定の領域の知見だけでは問題解決に至る道のりを十分に描けないこともあります。比較文化学類では各学年定員80人の学生に対して、6領域17コースの50名を超えるバラエティに富む教員たちが対応しています。その最大の魅力は、マンツーマンを主とした徹底した少人数教育。複合的な知の鍛錬による問題設定と解決のスキルを身に付けるには、最高の場と言えるでしょう。
Modern society is becoming highly complex and sometimes the knowledge of only a specific narrow field is insufficient for solving problems. In the College of Comparative Culture, 80 students in each grade study under around 50 experienced faculty members in 17 areas of of the 6 divisions. The biggest attraction of this is mainly an almost one-on-one small-group education. We think that this composite character of our college provides the best environment to acquire the task setting and problem solving skills needed in today’s globalized world.

豊富な教授陣の提供する多彩な授業は、1年生のための入門演習に始まり、300近い専門科目、ネイティヴ教員や留学生が活躍する外国語の授業など、もりだくさん。それらの多くは20人以下という、ぜいたくな少人数体制を敷いています。さらに主・副教員からなる指導体制が学生たちの関心や好奇心を無理なく伸ばしていき、その成果は毎年多彩な卒業論文となって結実しています。
A wide variety of courses offered by a large number of faculty members begin with introductory seminars for freshmen. The college offers nearly 300 specialized subjects and foreign language classes in which native faculty and international students interact and participate actively.. Many classes have a small group structure of less than 20 students. Furthermore, the teaching system divides faculty members into teams consisting of head teacher and assistant teacher in order to help expand student interests resulting in fruitful and diverse graduation theses every year.

卒業論文作成のプロセスは、入学して最初のカリキュラムを組む時点から始まっています。日々の学習を通じて、あるいは大学生活全般を通じて、見聞し体験した事柄の中から、あなたならではのユニークなテーマを探してください。それを教員や学友にぶつけてみてください。刺激的な議論の中から、"論文"にしたい何かが、次第に育っていくはずです。
The process of preparing a graduation thesis begins at the time of enrollment when you begin creating your own curriculum. Through daily learning or throughout university life, each student must search for a unique research topic, from among the things you have seen and experienced during your university life. Try talking about it with faculty or friends. The ideas for your thesis should gradually grow through exciting discussions.

 

学際・国際・少人数。これらの点に重点を置いた教育体制を通じて養われる力こそ、複雑化し多様化する現代社会において、普遍的に必要とされる能力なのです。
Our emphasis on interdisciplinarity, internationality and a small group education cultivate the abilities needed to succeed as a leader in today’s complex and diverse world.
